Empowering girls with knowledge today, for a brighter, independent tomorrow.
Education is the foundation of equality and opportunity for all.
Women House of Resilience
For over a decade, a compassionate and philanthropic woman, Mrs. Rachel Agwa, has dedicated herself to supporting girls’ education and empowering women in her community across the Nyanza region. Women House of Resilience, officially registered in 2023 as a community-based organization, was founded to realize and extend her vision of promoting the empowerment of girls and women. The organization strives to enhance the livelihoods of rural women, sponsor girls’ education, and foster sustainable community development. Additionally, it plays an active role in eliminating violence against women through community outreach, sensitization programs and advocacy.
WHR Main Pillars
What We Do
1. Sexual Reproductive Health Rights and Education (SRHR) for Adolescent Girls
We empower adolescent girls through training and mentorship programs designed to reduce teen pregnancies, school dropouts, and early marriages. Through our Girls Progress and Well-being Advancement (GPAWA) program, we provide access to crucial sexual reproductive health information and support. Our goal is to equip girls with the knowledge and resources they need to make informed decisions about their health and future.
2. Women's Economic Empowerment
We actively partner with women’s groups in rural areas to promote economic empowerment through initiatives like small and medium enterprises, table banking, and accessible loans with favorable interest rates. These efforts have fostered financial independence, improved livelihoods, and strengthened a sense of community among women. By enabling them to start small businesses, engage in agribusiness, and support their children’s education, we help reduce economic dependence on male partners and create sustainable change in their lives.
3. Education and Academic Support
For impoverished and disadvantaged girls and boys, we seek sponsorships from friends, families, and well-wishers to support their education. By ensuring access to quality education, we give children the opportunity to pursue their dreams without limitations, paving the way for a brighter and more equitable future in our community.
4. Prevention of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV)
With the rising prevalence of gender-based violence, Women House of Resilience leads the fight against it through community outreach, sensitization programs, and advocacy. We provide legal assistance, psycho-social support, and rehabilitation services for victims and survivors, helping them rebuild their lives with dignity and strength. Through these efforts, we work to create a safer and more just community for women and girls.
